A closer look at what we’ve been building on MGN

The next chapter of Metal Gear Network

We’ve been putting a lot of hours into MGN, and we wanted to show you where that work has been going. Alongside the news, we’re building more reasons to spend time with Metal Gear: places to explore the games, look closely at the artwork, revisit old footage, and discover the details behind the series.

MGN is a continuing work in progress. We’re working on the website and updating it day to day, adding material and refining the sections already online. Our Metal Gear Solid guide is the first game section to take shape, and it is still only partially complete. We’ll keep building it out and add sections for more games as time allows.

Our Metal Gear Saga index and expanded Metal Gear Solid guide are a big part of that work. Here’s a closer look at what you can explore now.

One saga, more ways in: the Metal Gear Saga index and refreshed MGN homepage

01 / Explore the saga

A new way into Metal Gear

The Metal Gear Saga index brings the games, remakes, collections, and related releases together in release order. Each entry gives you a starting point, with platform details and a short introduction to its place in the series.

Metal Gear Solid is our first dedicated game guide linked from the index, and it remains partially complete. The wider Saga index is a starting point for future game sections, which we’ll add as time allows.

Return to Shadow Moses: character profiles and PlayStation controls in our MGS guide

02 / Return to Shadow Moses

One game. Nine connected sections.

Our Metal Gear Solid guide goes beyond an overview. You can move between the story, character profiles, gameplay, locations, releases and collectibles, gallery, videos, and development history without losing your place.

The gameplay section includes an illustrated reference for the original PlayStation controls, alongside explanations of the systems behind Snake’s infiltration. The character section pairs profiles with Yoji Shinkawa’s artwork, while Locations lets you open eleven areas along the route through Shadow Moses and enlarge their maps.

They reveal rooms, items, and encounters, so expect spoilers when exploring later areas.

Look closer: MGN artwork gallery and regional release collections

03 / Look closer

The artwork, the editions, the archive

There’s a different kind of discovery in the physical details. Our Releases & Collectibles section brings together regional covers, discs, manuals, and bundled inserts, with images you can enlarge and edition notes to help explain what you’re looking at.

In the Gallery, you can browse artwork and artbook pages, including The Art of Metal Gear Solid ver. 1.5. The video archive brings together early demonstrations, trailers, making-of footage, and Integral gameplay. History connects development accounts and interviews with links to the original sources and translations.

We’re continuing to add and refine this material as part of our day-to-day work on MGN. The gallery and guide are growing collections, and details that haven’t been verified are identified on the relevant pages.

04 / Keep exploring

A refreshed front page, with more to find

The homepage brings featured stories, recent coverage, an interview spotlight, and our social channels into view. You’ll also find the MGS4 Integral Podcast player there, with episode controls and a pop-out option.

Our news archive continues to grow alongside these sections, bringing past coverage, images, and videos back onto the site. The aim is to make MGN somewhere you can follow what’s happening today and return to the material that made you a fan in the first place.

There’s still plenty we want to add, and we’ll keep building on what’s here as time allows. These first sections are part of a bigger goal for MGN.

A bridge between today’s news and Metal Gear’s history

Our overall goal is for MGN to remain a news aggregator while also becoming a place to learn about Metal Gear and share information about the series and its history. Alongside the latest news, we’ll keep adding articles, media, and other forms of content that give you more ways to explore the series.

We’re not trying to replace Wikipedia or the dedicated community wikis. We want MGN to become a source you can turn to for anything Metal Gear, bringing news, knowledge, and historical material together and helping you find the people and sources behind it.

One downside of social media is how fleeting it can be. News moves down the feed, posts become difficult to find, and valuable information can be lost to time. We hope the MGN website can serve as a bridge between those conversations and a lasting home for the material they uncover, helping ensure that the series’ history, the community’s contributions, and the moments we share aren’t lost or forgotten.

With your continued support, we’ll keep working toward these goals and making MGN your best resource for all things Metal Gear and the Kojima universe. Thank you.
