Hideo Kojima and Mamoru Oshii to Discuss the Future of Entertainment at NIKKEI Weekend

Hideo Kojima, News23 hours ago12 Views

Hideo Kojima and Ghost in the Shell director Mamoru Oshii will meet for a conversation at NIKKEI Weekend in Tokyo on Friday, November 20, 2026. Their session, “The Future of Entertainment” (「エンターテインメントの未来」), is scheduled for 13:30–14:30 JST.

NIKKEI The STYLE’s official announcement says the two creators will explore the possibilities of Japanese content and the rapidly changing future of entertainment. The event’s programme adds that their discussion will consider how AI and other developments are reshaping entertainment, bringing together perspectives from games and cinema.

For us, this is a meeting of two creative figures whose work means an enormous amount. As we wrote when sharing the announcement:

They’re among the most important creatives of their time.

What Kojima and Oshii will discuss

Nikkei introduces Kojima through the Metal Gear and Death Stranding series, and Oshii through his work in animation and live-action filmmaking, including Ghost in the Shell and The Sky Crawlers. The official description positions the conversation around Japanese creativity and the future of expression across their respective fields. A member of Nikkei’s culture group will moderate the session.

The talk forms part of Nikkei’s 150th-anniversary “Dialogues on the Future” programme. NIKKEI Weekend’s daytime dialogue sessions run from 09:50 to 16:00 JST, covering sport, food, literature and consumer trends alongside games and film. Readers can check the full official timetable for the day’s programme.

Venue and tickets

The event takes place at TOKYO NODE in Toranomon Hills Station Tower, 2-6-2 Toranomon, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Nikkei lists TOKYO NODE HALL on floors 46 and 47, with the Arrival Hall on floor 45. See the official access information and venue map when planning a visit.

Ticket A: Dialogue sessions — ¥5,000, including tax. This includes admission to the daytime programme, access to session archives at no additional charge for programme participants, and use of the NIKKEI HUB break and networking space. It excludes the separate wine-tasting event. Dialogue-session tickets remained available when we checked the official listing on October 23.

Ticket B: Wine tasting — ¥20,000, including tax. The separate “The Future of Japanese Wine” event runs from 16:30 to 18:30 JST. Nikkei marks this option as full, with sales ended.

Ticket C: Dialogue sessions plus wine tasting — ¥25,000, including tax. This combined option is also marked full, with sales ended. Readers attending specifically for Kojima and Oshii should refer to the available dialogue-session ticket option.

Tickets must be purchased in advance. Registration requires a Nikkei ID; readers without one can register using an email address. Nikkei’s FAQ lists credit-card payment through Nikkei ID, and says a confirmation email is sent after an application is completed.

Buy dialogue-session tickets through Nikkei’s official registration page, or review the ticket details and inclusions before booking.

Language, recording and further information

Nikkei’s FAQ lists English–Japanese simultaneous interpretation for the November 18 “Dialogues on the Future” programme and the November 20 wine event. It does not list the Kojima–Oshii dialogue session among those interpretation-supported sessions. Readers who need language assistance should confirm arrangements with the organiser through its official inquiry form.

The organiser prohibits photography, video recording and audio recording inside the venue without prior permission, apart from designated photography areas within the Future Showcase. The official FAQ has further attendance guidance. Speakers, programme details and the timetable may change, so check the official event page for updates.
