Preview archive — corrected October 31, 2026: This April 2025 article looks at Delta’s Cure interface and battle-damage presentation. Cure was already part of MGS3; the remake did not invent its injury-treatment system. The original article overstated the changes and included unverified effects, which have been removed below.
How the Cure System Works
Cure treats injuries and illness through medical supplies rather than simply replacing lost health. For the original mechanics, Konami’s MGS3 manual distinguishes surgical treatment for external injuries from medicinal treatment for conditions such as poisoning.
This treatment structure comes from the original game. Konami’s manual explains that serious untreated injuries reduce the maximum LIFE gauge and recommends using Cure promptly. The earlier suggestion that the original offered only a quick fix was misleading.
Realistic and Persistent Damage
Delta updates the visible battle-damage presentation. Konami’s official overview describes clothing wear and bodily injuries shown in real time. Visible damage should be distinguished from gameplay penalties: that description does not establish the blood-trail detection, limping or visibility effects previously suggested here.
Survival and Immersion
For MGN, the interesting connection is between survival management and the visible record of Snake’s mission. The interface can make treating injuries feel more tangible, while the familiar menu preserves a distinctive part of MGS3. This is our reading of the preview material, not evidence of a newly added infection system or unspecified long-term debuffs.
To the team’s credit, what I like most about the new UI is that it feels familiar, yet it has evolved in a way that today’s gamers will appreciate. Longtime fans will be glad to see it hasn’t strayed far from its origins.
