This notice explains how information is handled when you visit metalgear.net, the website of MGN – Metal Gear Network, an independent fan publication. It covers this website; external shops and social platforms have their own privacy notices.

Website delivery and security

When you visit, your browser sends technical information such as your IP address, browser and device information, the requested URL, referring page and access time. Our hosting, content-delivery and security services process this information to deliver pages, detect abusive traffic, troubleshoot problems and protect the site. The site uses HostGator hosting, Cloudflare and Wordfence security.

Site statistics and performance

MGN uses Jetpack services from Automattic for site features including statistics and image delivery. These services can receive technical visit information, such as IP addresses, browser information, referring URLs and pages viewed, to provide statistics and operate their features. Cookies and browser storage

The website and its service providers use cookies and similar technologies for functions such as security, administrator authentication, statistics and embedded content. The media player and other interactive features may store preferences or playback state in your browser. You can delete cookies and site storage or block them through your browser settings; doing so may affect some website features.

Google advertising

MGN has installed Google AdSense code. AdSense approval is pending, so this notice does not mean that Google ads are currently being served. When Google advertising services operate on the site, Google and its partners may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses or other identifiers to provide, measure and personalize advertising, depending on applicable choices and requirements.

Embedded media and external links

Articles may contain embedded video, social posts or other third-party material. Loading or interacting with an embed can connect your browser to its provider, which may receive your IP address, use cookies and record interactions under its own policies. Being signed in to that provider may allow it to associate interactions with your account. External links take you to independently operated websites.

Affiliate links and shops

Some links are affiliate links. When you follow them, the destination merchant or affiliate service may record referral information and use cookies to attribute a purchase. As an Amazon Associate, MGN earns from qualifying purchases. Purchases made on external shops, including the separately linked merchandise shop, are governed by those shops’ privacy and checkout terms.

Messages and comments

The Contact page directs you to MGN’s existing social accounts. If you contact MGN there, the platform processes your message under its own privacy policy, and MGN receives the information you choose to share so we can respond, investigate corrections or handle your request. Please do not send sensitive information in public replies. New website posts have comments disabled by default.

Retention and your requests

Technical logs, messages and service records have different retention periods depending on their purpose and the provider’s settings. Information may be kept as needed to operate and secure the site, respond to a request, resolve a dispute or meet applicable obligations. Clearing browser storage removes locally stored preferences, but does not delete records held by a service provider.

To ask about information MGN holds about you, or request access, correction or deletion where applicable, use the routes on our Contact page. Identify the request without posting private documents publicly. Requests involving a third-party platform may also need to be directed to that provider.
