Throwback: When GTA V’s trailer left Hideo Kojima in awe of Rockstar

We’re looking back at Kojima’s reaction to the Grand Theft Auto V trailer in 2013 — a moment when another developer’s work left the Metal Gear creator openly impressed, and wondering whether his own “V” could match it.

In two posts from July 11, 2013 (UTC), Kojima praised the freedom shown in Rockstar’s trailer and the standard its team was setting. He compared it with Metal Gear Solid V, then still in development.

Our take

I mean Rockstar are in a league of their own. I also think a lot of it was Kojima's absolute respect for their work and being masters of their craft. Nothing wrong with that you know.
