The Metal Gear Dev Team is upgrading selected assets in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, with the work planned to continue until close to release.
In its latest update, the team says the high-resolution work is still ongoing and that it is working to deliver the best-looking version possible. The announcement refers to some of MGS4’s assets, without giving a full list of the elements being updated.
For us, this is an encouraging look at the care going into MGS4’s return. Raising the resolution at which a game renders and improving the assets it displays are separate parts of its presentation. This update gives us a glimpse of the latter, with the team continuing to refine the game itself.
The accompanying images show Snake in the cemetery scene, comparing the original PlayStation 3 release with the Master Collection version captured on PC. They give us a direct reference for the updated presentation, though the work is still in progress.

The team has not identified every changed asset or promised that all assets will be replaced. We will be watching how the final collection brings these improvements together.
