Looking back at Metal Gear Solid 4’s impact on PlayStation 3 sales

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was a major moment for PlayStation 3, and these photographs take us back to its appearance at a Sony investor meeting in Tokyo.

Director Hideo Kojima spoke at the meeting, while Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai noted the game’s role in shifting hardware. During its Japanese release, weekly PS3 sales rose to roughly eight times the previous week’s level.

We remember MGS4 as a platform driver for the PS3. The images below preserve a little of that era, when Snake’s latest mission was central to the conversation around Sony’s console.
