Community modding bounties target rain and particle effects in MGS2 and MGS3

Some very exciting developments are happening within our modding community on our Discord server. Afevis/ShizCalev has announced two mod/code bounties aimed at improving effects in Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3.

With another official patch seemingly on the way, the announcement encourages community contributions that could tackle some longstanding visual problems.

Two fixes, two bounties

The first offers $275 for fixing vector-rain width scaling in both games. The linked MGSHDFix issue explains that these rain streaks are vector lines rather than textures or sprites, and their width does not scale correctly as resolution increases.

The second offers $500 for restoring smoke, fire and related particle effects to their original 30fps timing. The announcement identifies MGS2, with possible relevance to MGS3 still a question. Effects such as Solidus’s skates and explosions can run at double speed under a 60fps clock, making them finish too early.

These are community bounties for proposed fixes, rather than an announcement that either issue has already been resolved. We are excited to see what the community can contribute alongside Konami’s ongoing work.
