Opinion: What should a completely new Metal Gear be?

Metal Gear, Opinion2 years ago6 Views

I've been thinking a lot about the future of the Metal Gear series and what a post-Kojima game would be like lately. Specifically, a completely new entry in the series.

It's a very touchy subject to talk about because I know fans have opposing feelings about what they envision a new Metal Gear to be. There is no right or wrong answer, really. Where could it take place? Would it have any returning characters and what connections to the past could it have? How much would you pull from the past? What themes would you go with, considering the series still resonates with current real-world subjects?

Let us know in the comments, what would you like to see in a new entry in the Metal Gear series?

One idea: a Sicario-inspired setting

I'll throw some thoughts I had into this. Nothing too specific but I was thinking gameplay wise, were would I like to see the game take place? I was thinking how much I enjoyed the movie Sicario, and how it would be cool to see a Metal Gear protagonist find himself somewhere down in South America, dealing with cartels and other government entities potentially plotting some horrible event that would result in human loss that we had to prevent from happening. It could be for some very interesting environment scenarios as well as terrorist involvement. Taking place in the desert, city, urban and jungle environments. I'm just shooting from the hip here but yeah.

Our further thoughts

No wrong answers. Africa would be great for sure.

Yeah both central and south would work for sure.

I don't think you need to go "insane". I think staying grounded in reality and do what you know works in terms of themes, gameplay and environment. Good stealth gameplay, not trying to re-invent the wheel here. I'm not thinking spin off here either and some of the wildness that happens in games like Acid. This would be a new entry in the series.

Is it? I'm not familiar with that series. But why does that matter? Metal Gear has ties to Central/South America is it not allowed to explore that even further?

I think remakes or remasters of past entries in the series is a given. I was more thinking along the lines of IF a new game was made.

I would be down for any new entry featuring the Boss for sure.

Some really interesting replies here. None of which are particularly shocking, but an interesting mix for sure. 🧐
