Opinion: The difficult work behind small Master Collection fixes

Metal Gear, Opinion2 years ago6 Views

The community work on MGS2 and MGS3 modding bounties is a reminder that an apparently small fix can involve a great deal of difficult work.

We recently shared the announcement of mod and code bounties covering particle, rain, smoke, and fire effects, with some issues directly connected to frame-rate changes. Talented people have taken on those challenges, and watching the work develop has made the complexity especially clear.

These are not easy fixes. Adjustments can break other things, and behaviour can change from scene to scene. Getting a correction right takes testing and careful judgement, with work still ongoing.

We applaud the people doing that work. It also puts Konami’s official Master Collection updates into perspective. A patch can take weeks or months even when its visible change looks minor. The effort behind it should not be measured solely by the length of its patch notes.

We look forward to both the community’s internal efforts and Konami’s continued work on the PC and console versions. This is commentary on the work involved, rather than a new patch announcement.
