The controller-port-two guard manipulation used in MGS1’s escape sequence still works in Master Collection Vol. 1. BadHumans demonstrated it on PS5, showing the guards reacting while a second controller is used.
This is the time-saving technique that emerged from a group effort among Metal Gear Speedrunners users in 2021. Our original report specifically pointed to the D-pad on the second controller.
In the discussion, we also shared our preference for the original presentation and our view of the collection at the time:
Out side of fixing the audio and controller issues this release is far better than the Gog PC port. The game doesn't need widescreen it was meant to be played in 4:3 aspect ratio and on a CRT preferably. We are already seeing the multitude of issues forcing a game that wasn't supposed to run in widescreen with mods trying to do so with MGS2,MGS3 in the MCV1. Its a PS1 game, get over it.
