MGS1 filtering mod highlights the case for display options

News, Metal Gear2 years ago8 Views

Community modding efforts have demonstrated how MGS1: Master Collection looks with bilinear filtering removed. We shared the comparison while asking for filtering and smoothing controls that players could choose for themselves.

Our original comments and request for an official display toggle:

In regards to my post earlier, Modding efforts have come up with a solution that removes the bilinear filtering in MGS1: Master Collection version. This is part of that blurring people are complaining about out-of-native resolution upscaling complaints. Inside the games' code was also found "smoothing", much like the option you could disable on the PS3, which is also apparent here. Its baffling to think Konami/M2 who worked on this port would not make the bilinear filtering or smoothing a display toggle option for users on console or on Steam. I imagine this could be easily fixed on their end, so I hope they do so because the difference, as you can see below, is stark.

On why we did not provide a download link:

I'd rather not, as I do not want to link people to a git hub where files could be changed after the fact and cause potential damage. That's the risk you take when you use mods. If you search for MGS1 bilinear filtering mod I'm sure you will find it easily.
