Metal Gear Solid 3’s long-awaited resolution update arrives on Steam in Ver. 2.0.0

The long-awaited resolution update is finally here! Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater — Master Collection Version on Steam has received Ver. 2.0.0, adding resolution options and expanded controls. We’ve included the demonstration video and the four screenshots from our follow-up below.

Resolution settings

The Screen settings in the Options menu now include Resolution, with Original Mode, Adjusted Mode and a Custom option. Original Mode retains the original resolution. Adjusted Mode uses a 1080p internal resolution, with upscaling options reaching 1080p, 1440p or 2160p depending on the setup. Custom lets players choose internal resolution, upscaling and movie settings separately.

The distinction matters: 4K is an upscaling option, while the higher internal rendering option is 1080p. The movie setting can also switch supported in-game movies to higher-resolution versions. Resolution settings must be chosen before starting the game.

Controls and other changes

The update expands control settings, including controller assignments and keyboard and mouse layouts. Players can choose Layout A, Layout B or Custom, and adjust mouse scroll-wheel sensitivity for zooming in and out. Our original report also highlighted mouse controls, Steam Trading Cards and Badges, and minor fixes. Trading Cards and Badges had been announced separately on September 20 and did not require a patch.
