News 🚨 Konami Suing Over Massive Metal Gear Solid 2 Source Code Leak
Konami has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit over the unauthorized release of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty source code, non-public game assets and internal development materials. The complaint was filed on June 2, 2026 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, under case number 2:26-cv-05918.
The complaint names “Does 1–10” because Konami does not yet know the defendants’ identities. Konami alleges unauthorized copying and distribution.
According to the filing, Konami discovered the leak in May 2026. Copies appeared on Pixeldrain and Buzzheavier, with a 4chan thread directing people to the files. On May 13, Konami’s lawyers sent removal demands to all three platforms and asked them to preserve information that could help identify those responsible.
Konami says the platforms disabled the relevant links but had not provided information identifying the uploaders when the complaint was filed.
Konami is asking the court to stop further infringement, require the deletion of unauthorized copies and preserve records connected to the leak. It also seeks damages, legal fees and a jury trial. These are requests in Konami’s complaint; the filing itself does not establish liability or award damages.
In her June 23 report for Aftermath, Nicole Carpenter says Konami’s internal investigation did not identify the leaker. She also reports that a request to serve subpoenas on the two file-hosting companies by email was denied without prejudice because the lawyers had not shown sufficient efforts to find contact information. That ruling allows a renewed application; it does not dismiss the copyright lawsuit.
For fans interested in how MGS2 was built, the source code and development materials have drawn attention to the game’s history and cut content. Aftermath describes enthusiasts examining the files. The legal action centers on the alleged unauthorized release and distribution of Konami’s copyrighted material, with the identities of those responsible still unresolved in the reporting linked here.
