Remember back in May 2023 when Konami Japan’s newly formed Metal Gear Solid team said they were going to give us a faithful remake of Snake Eater but with killer graphics and evolved gameplay? Yeah, I was skeptical too. “I’ll believe it when I see it,” right? The Master Collection Vol. 1 launch didn’t exactly inspire confidence at first, but the way they actually listened and fixed stuff, even stuff nobody complained about before, got my attention and others as well. We’re seeing that same dedication with Delta, and honestly, I’m getting hyped.
Visually, the game looks amazing so far. I’m not going to nitpick every tiny artistic choice, but overall, they seem to be delivering. And from what we have heard from people who got to play the demo at those press and public events like TGS, the gameplay and quality-of-life stuff is on point too.
I’ve been saying I’d stay cautiously optimistic, and that’s where I’m at. Show, don’t tell, ya know? And so far, they are showing. I’m happy with the originals. I don’t need remakes. But I also know we don’t get to decide these things. Kojima knew it too. All I wanted was for them to respect the original work, and it seems like they are.
The newly formed team working on this, which includes many of the original staff, seems to be going above and beyond to keep their original pledge to the fans.
“We are working hard for METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER to be a faithful recreation of the original story and game design, while evolving the gameplay with stunning visuals and a seamless user experience.”
So, for anyone judging a book by its cover, things are looking pretty damn good. A demo would seal the deal *cough* KONAMI *cough*, but even without it, the wait feels worth it. We’re about six months out now, and it’s a great time to be a Metal Gear fan, old or new. We’re heading into a new era for the series and the fandom, and I’m all in.
Major props to the team in Japan @metalgear_jp and @Konami for finally locking down that release date.
August can’t come soon enough!
