Here are some takeaways from the recent AUTOMATION recruitment interview with four Delta developers. It emphasizes continued investment especially with its young staff.
Konami has multiple unannounced projects in development, according to Delta’s director.
Discussing the company’s commitment to high end game development, he said more developers are needed for these projects. Depending on the project, internally led productions can involve over 100 designers and programmers alone.
The interview also highlights younger developers taking on major responsibilities, including creating Snake’s model for Delta.
Something interesting mentioned was the Delta team deliberately preserved a bug from MGS3 after deciding that fixing it could make the game less fun.
The team reviewed all of MGS3’s original source code while rebuilding the game. They discovered a bug affecting searchlight behavior, corrected it, then chose to retain the original behavior for gameplay reasons.
The interview doesn’t specify exactly what the bug did.
Delta also required more changes than originally planned, including fresh motion capture and reworked programming. Its an example of the team weighing technical improvements against preserving what made the original enjoyable.
Encouraging for Konami’s future, though no titles were named and this does not confirm another Metal Gear game.
