David Hayter has finally played Metal Gear Solid V, and his verdict is a far cry from his earlier reluctance to touch it: “All is forgiven.”
Speaking to PC Gamer ahead of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Hayter reflected on being replaced as Snake’s voice by Kiefer Sutherland. He once described the prospect of playing MGSV as “60 hours of humiliation,” but eventually decided to give it a chance after nearly a decade.
What won him over was the gameplay. Hayter praised the freedom to approach the same encounter through different routes and strategies, saying MGSV might offer his favourite gameplay in the series. It also changed how he felt when fans named it as their favourite Metal Gear.
He also recalled meeting Sutherland at a bar in Dallas, where they shared drinks. Hayter spoke warmly about him and said there was no lingering ill will.
