Early Master Collection observations: Snake’s shaver, MGS3 effects and more

Early copies of Master Collection Vol. 1 have prompted reports of fixes and changes across the games. Here is the set of observations we shared ahead of launch.

MGS2’s shaver behavior

We reported that the HD Collection issue with Snake remaining unshaven after receiving the electronic shaver had been corrected. We also noted the return of beard growth when the console clock is advanced, as in the PS2 version.

MGS3 presentation and locker controls

Our post noted apparent corrections to depth of field and other visual elements in MGS3. It also described the Xbox 360-style locker-peeking approach being used in place of pressure-sensitive input: the view moves slowly toward the locker door.

A detail in MGS1

We also reported that Johnny Sasaki’s shorts appeared to have been restored and retained in the Western editions during the scene after Meryl takes his uniform.

These were our pre-launch observations, with some points described provisionally. We expected more changes and details to become clear once players had time with the release.
